Hope you are doing great. It’s raining cats and dogs at our place, leading to frequent blackouts, transport disruption and local holidays. I am possibly the least affected one here right now, except when the environmental catastrophe plays with my Wi-Fi. Lol!!
We have been reading the book “Hooray for Fish!” for the past few weeks on a daily basis. Yet another delightful creation from Lucy Cousins ( the award-winning creator of Maisy ), this piscatorial has more than one reason to get picked from the store.
The cover page itself is breath-taking, with its striking blue background and eye-popping fishy friends all around. There isn’t a big story as such, just a momentary meeting with a bright little fish who takes us along while waving hello at the fishy friends in the sea.
As you dive into the color-splashed book, the author offers a promising visual and verbal treat in every nook and corner of it. The inexorable rhyming words will delight readers of all ages. Illustrations in the book are stunningly charming, colorful and spread across a decent number of pages which are good enough to keep the curious baby readers occupied for a long time. There are only a handful of words per page – it combines well with the rich distribution of pictures.
We get to meet a wide range of fishy friends out there – of various colors, shapes and emotions. The creative side of the author is in the driver’s seat throughout the book and portrays ele-fish (a fish that resembles an elephant), shelly fish (one that resembles a snail), hairy fish (easy to guess its appearance), scary fish and many unnamed ones that are left for us to relate and wonder.
The book works well for any type of kid, irrespective of their age and interest. It has a dearly ending that brings in a sense of personal connection and empathy within the curious little listeners.
